I just intend this as a sort of fun way to point out some of my experiences as a blogger receiving pitches and press releases. I think it is helpful, particularly for bands, to know what the process is like. Just as publicists send out 100s of e-mails a day, we receive as many. We literally only have seconds to make a decision about whether to further explore an artist and I elect to ignore a solid 80% of the messages we receive. That mostly results from bad targeting. Some, however, is from appropriate bands sending us e-mails like:

"We're The Noodle Doodles and we rock, check out our Myspace."

Not going to happen. I even wrote up some submission guidelines for Boston Band Crush:

<a href="http://www.bostonbandcrush.com/2008/01/6-ways-to-make-us-crush-on-you.html" it's current and you can also get an idea of what they cover through headlines. i'm guilty of sending the email about reading an article (which i have) but i may not make it through the entire blog--or even back to the front page if i have to pitch 100-200 contacts in one day.
also journos and bloggers should tell the publicist if they don't like the band--or ask to be taken off the list for that particular band--it could save a lot of email hassle on both ends (unless you get the pr company that doesn't listen--and that's another story entirely)

<link rel='self'
